Flogging the old Charlton Horror re-post... again!

While I finish up a few of my comprehensive "monster-size" posts (similar to the THUNDER agents two-parter that almost broke my back last October) here's some repost-o-rama.

First ish of this shortlived title, hosted by Mortimer Tishin.... Mort Tishin... get it? I guess Nicola Cuti was hanging out with Joe Gill that day. I wanted to include the Fred Himes story from this issue but my copy is missing a page - oh well....
BEYOND THE GRAVE #1

Haunted #11 has the excellent Gothic tale By Steve Ditko, "Bride in Darkness"...
HAUNTED #11

Haunted #12 features "Eternal Love" by Stevey the D once more cranking it out on tha "Gothic Romance" tip again, plus "The Egg" by Joe Staton.
HAUNTED #12

MONSTER HUNTERS #3!

MONSTER HUNTERS #8

MONSTER HUNTERS #10

SCARY TALES #3

And to finish up, dig that Tom Sutton cover... and the second story, "The Eyes of the Beholders" is by him also. The swamp monster tale, "Fear Feeder" seems to be signed "Carlos Villa" and is also a nice job, but the stand-out story has to be "Sanctuary" by Joes Staton & Gill. Sweet stuff!

Dr. Solar vs The Blue Beetle (Re-Post)

As erudite panel-ologists, we are concerned with loftier ideals in the appreciation of the finer aspects of the artform. These two issues, however, fall at the lower end of the spectrum, but are fun none-the-less. Who cares about Marvel and DC when you could be reading Charlton and Gold Key!

Atlas also had a short-lived magazine line that attempted to emulate the Marvel & Warren lines that dominated the marketplace in the mid-70's. As with their comic line, the results were uneven to say the least.

However, (and we are very interested in howevers, exceptions and odd-men-out here at datajunkie H.Q.) there were diamonds in among the drek.

Weird Tales Of The Macabre #1

Case in point - Thrilling Adventure #2. Killer art by Russ Heath, Walt Simonson and probably the best story Atlas published, "A Job Well Done", were included in this ish.

"A Job Well Done"

I'm pretty sure this issue of Seaboard (Atlas) Comics' short-lived horror title contains one of the best horror stories to appear in comics..... EVER!

It's the touching tale of a small lonely boy who.... well, read it yourself.

There's also some other nice stories and art, especially Pat Boyette, but this is just AMAZING stuff by John Severin.

Weird Tales Of The Macabre #2! another CLASSIC monster-thon Halloween-type book. Mwah-hah-hah!

PS. That "Glow in the Dark" Monster kit ad is really there right before the story in the actual magazine folks..... i bet someone had a laugh about that in the Atlas office....(probably Jeff Rovin and Steve Mitchell, i would guess...)
