Hannes Bok!

Allthough I prefer Finlay, there's a lot to be said for Hannes Bok, who was more of a stylist than most Fantasy/SF illustrators, and holds a high place in the pantheon of innovators who helped to vizualize the world that was to come... but pretty much didn't. Here's some choice examples!

I Like Ike! You like Ike! Everybody likes Ike!

Post weekend re-post....

Here's a repost of some classics from my vault till I can get my act together! I had a wonderful weekend, thanks for asking, and managed to refrain from sitting at the computer at all. Did my head a world of good, and hopefully this will tide you over for a few days or so.... OK?
The Lost World

Here's a juicy selection of Wally Wood's Harvey material from the '60's. Wally did some excellent work during his brief stay at Harvey before moving on to Tower to do the legendary T.H.U.N.D.E.R Agents.

Some of the other material, not by Wood, in these two issues was less than stellar...like this for example....

This issue features a very interesting "anti-hero" character named "Dollar Bill" Cash, who looks A LOT like Wood, plus a rocking 10 pager with "Lone Tiger"!

On the Ditko front, here's some very nice reprints of both Gorgo #1 and Konga #1 from the most amazing Fantastic Giants one-shot heralding Steve's return to Charlton after telling Stan "The Man" to put it where the sun don't shine. Stick it to "The Man" Stevey baby!

The two backups in this ish also, uh... like ROCK dude!

VOYAGE TO THE DEEP #2

And then there's this....

Once again, regarding this item, I need to reiterate my opinion on "re-editing of the past", which is a more than common event these days. "Those who forget the mistakes of the past are condemned to repeat them" is the quote, and i hold it to be true, now more than ever. This catalog from Valmor Products extolls the dubious virtues of such products as "Sweet Georgia Brown" Skin Cream and more. By our (hopefully?) more enlightened standards, this artifact is horribly rascist, so if that bothers you, please do not download this file. This document is presented in the interest of preserving a less than flattering artifact from the 1930s, in the hope that we can be grateful for the fact that (again, hopefully) we have matured both as a culture and a species.... or not.

In other news, i'm still taking time away from the ol' blog to focus in on other aspects of my "so-called" life, but the good news is, if you have any requests regarding reposts, now is the time to speak up... what else can I say - Summer usually IS re-runs anyway, right?
